Creating a Colorbond®Surfmist® Matt® feature wall

Not long ago, I spent some time working on my own home, creating a custom Colorbond feature wall. I documented the whole process from start to finish in the video below.

Here’s a summary of the process and some relevant data points for creating a custom Colorbond feature wall:

Process:

  1. Planning and design
  2. Measuring and marking the area
  3. Cutting the Colorbond sheets to size
  4. Installing the sheets onto the wall frame
  5. Adding flashing and trim for a finished look
  6. Sealing any gaps or edges

Relevant data points:

  1. Colorbond thickness: Typically 0.42mm or 0.48mm for residential applications.
  2. Sheet sizes: Common sizes range from 2400mm x 1200mm to 3600mm x 1500mm.
  3. Fastening methods: Use Colorbond-approved screws or rivets, spaced at 300-400mm intervals.
  4. Weatherproofing: Ensure a 10-15mm gap between sheets for expansion and contraction.
  5. Material costs: Colorbond sheets range from $20 to $50 per square meter, depending on the color and thickness.
  6. Installation time: A DIY feature wall can take around 2-5 days to complete, depending on the size and complexity.
  7. Tools required: Circular saw, drill, impact driver, measuring tape, level, and safety gear (gloves, safety glasses, etc.).

Tips and considerations:

  1. Consult local building codes and regulations.
  2. Ensure proper ventilation behind the feature wall.
  3. Use a level and straightedge to ensure accurate installation.
  4. Wear protective gear when handling and cutting Colorbond sheets.
  5. Consider hiring a professional if you’re not comfortable with the installation process.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions or need more information.
